The word carnelian is derived from the Greek word “carneus” meaning “flesh or skin color” due to its orange color. This stone is also known as Cornelian. Today, carnelian stone is sometimes referred to as orange agate or orange agate. Carnelian is a member of the agate family and is usually carved as a cabochon and is sometimes embossed or even made into collectible sculptures. The most important deposits of carnelian stone are in Brazil, Uruguay, Russia (Siberia), Germany, India and Madagascar, which is difficult to find compared to agate stone. The color of carnelian can range from pale orange to dark.
